Arise and Shine

“Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you.”

It’s post-Christmas. The holidays are past. All the planning and preparation we’ve put into an amazing celebration is over and now we have to deal with the cold, dreary days of winter along with the Christmas bills and bulge. We’ve been hyped up for a month with so many events and celebrations that it’s a bit of a shock to the system when things slow down. It is a time that many struggle with. I have found it challenging to stay on top of things, too. By nature, I’ve been taught to be a positive person but as I reflect on past winters, I can see that there has been a struggle to stay positive and full of vision for the days ahead.

As we enter this year, I want to encourage you (and me) to press through the dreary thoughts, discouraging days and debilitating habits. I want to speak hope into your heart and tell you “YOU CAN DO IT!” Sunshiny days are ahead! “Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
I recently read a story about a sinkhole in California that happened in the National Corvette Museum. Eight classic corvettes valued at around $1 million dollars disappeared into the big hole that was approximately 40 feet wide and up to 60 feet deep. This phenomenon brought me to thinking about the importance of having a solid foundation. As we start out this year, we need to be purposeful to build a solid foundation on the Word of God. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” When we base our life on the living words of our Living God, we will find protection, success, direction and so much more. “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”

I’m cheering you on as you start out this year! May you taste and see that the Lord is good. Let the past stay in the past. Arise! Shine! God has a great year ahead for all who will press in to His Word and His love. He will restore what was lost and redeem what was stolen. Get up! Wipe away those tears and fears and let’s see God move in our lives like never before! Amen and amen!
